Fleetwood Weekend Projects: Transform Your Home’s Exterior
Make the most of a free weekend by taking on a weekend project with Fleetwood! This weekend, why not focus on the exterior of your home with a masonry and front door makeover? Read on below for a guide on how to do both.
Paint Your Exterior Walls with Fleetwood
Fleetwood's handy step-by-step guide below will help you to transform your exterior walls.
Step 1
Remove any surface dirt and any loose or flaking paint by giving the whole surface a good wash down. If there is any mould, treat it with fungicidal wash.
Step 2
The next step is to fill any cracks/holes in the render with filler, so you get a perfect finish. Use Fleetwood Stabilising Primer to seal any unstable areas.
Step 3
Ensure that windows and any fixtures or fittings are covered with Fleetwood's Low Tack Washi Tape, or removed completely to avoid spills.
Step 4
Apply your first coat of Weather Clad paint. Walls that have been previously painted typically won’t need an undercoat. Two coats are usually enough. However, if you’re painting over a strong shade, you might need a third. For pebble and stone dashing walls, Weather Clad offers excellent coverage.
Paint Your Front Door with Fleetwood
Follow Fleetwood's step-by-step guide below to transform your front door.
Step 1
First step is to remove all hardware such as: handles; letterboxes; and doorbells. If they won’t come off, cover them with Fleetwood Washi Tape.
Step 2
Lightly sand your door with a sanding sponge to get rid of grime, dirt, and old paint. For tougher surfaces, use a professional sander. Use a de-greasing cleaner, rinse and let dry. Remember, your prep is your finish.
Step 3
Apply wood filler to chips or cracks then give a light sand/dusting to remove any dust and dirt. Add a coat of Fleetwood Pure Grip Primer or Advanced Undercoat using a Fleetwood Pro-D brush. Lightly sand between coats.
Step 4
Paint a panelled door in the direction of the lines shown. Work with the grain of the wood. Apply two top coats of your chosen colour in Fleetwood Advanced paint in either an Eggshell, Satinwood or Gloss finish.
