The Ultimate Guide to Decorating Your Christmas Tree

Thinking it might already be time to put your Christmas tree up? Then we have some great tips on how you can create a picture worthy tree this Christmas! First and foremost, it’s all about the preparation. Follow our helpful tips below for all the guidance you’ll need for perfecting your Christmas tree game this festive season:

  • To make your tree look its best, spend a little time preparing your branches. If using an artificial tree, fluff your branches to create a realistic appearance.
  • If you have opted for a real tree, don’t try to pull branches down. After a day or two inside, these will loosen themselves and hang naturally. Give your real tree plenty of water and keep it away from a direct heat source to maintain its fresh pine scent.
  • Now, let’s talk colour! When decorating your tree, it’s best to pick a colour scheme. Using 2-3 colours will help you in selecting your decorations and create a cohesive design. There’s an endless array of colours that you can choose from, but this year we are seeing three clear Christmas trends, which may help with your decision. You can read more about these Christmas trends below.
  • Once you’ve selected your colour scheme, begin by adding your lights. Wrap the start of the lights around a bottom branch so it doesn’t come loose. Thread the lights through the smaller branches, then continue to thread layer by layer in a spiral fashion to create an even coverage of lights. Keep adding lights until you reach your optimum level of twinkle!
  • Now it’s time to start adding your decorations.
  • It’s a good idea to mix an assortment of bauble sizes throughout the tree. Don’t be afraid of using larger baubles. they can really add impact to your design. Teardrop decorations and snowflakes are also an ideal to add variety to your decorating scheme.
  • Smaller ornaments and baubles are great for filling those little gaps and smaller branches near the top of the tree. Try to avoid heavier decorations, as these can weigh your branches down, making your tree look a little tired.
  • To really personalise your tree, why not try your hand at creating some homemade ornaments? Artificial flowers and painted acorns are a great way to create a more bespoke look, or you could even try hand painting or spray-painting baubles too! A little sprinkling of fake snow is also a great way to create that fresh from the garden, natural feel.
  • After all that decorating, the only thing that remains is choosing who puts the tree topper on the top of tree!
  • Once you’re finished, sit back, relax and enjoy the Christmas countdown!

The addition of a Nutcracker or train set is the ultimate finishing touch to your traditional Christmas look.
